Takei Challenges the Politics of Fear, Invites Trump to see “Allegiance”
As many of you know, we are currently doing a fundraiser with CharityBuzz for their special holiday auction to support our programming and outreach initiatives.
One auction item in particular is proving to be relevant than ever. You have the chance to meet Star Trek’s George Takei and snag 4 premium seats to his Broadway show Allegiance. Donated funds from this fantastic package will directly help raise awareness of the biggest refugee crisis since World War II.
Never before has a Broadway musical been so relevant. Allegiance, which is directly inspired by George Takei’s experience in Japanese-American internment camps during World War II, illustrates what happens when America passes judgement on an entire race, much like the discrimination Syrian refugees and Muslims face today.
When a presidential candidate like Donald Trump makes hefty statements about not letting any Muslims into the United States or requiring the Muslim-Americas already living here to register with the government and carry special identification cards, it is clear we have a problem. That sort of discrimination has no place in America and can only lead us down a darker road. George Takei takes this Islamophobia personally, having been through an unjust internment himself during World War II. Takei has even personally invited Trump to watch Allegiance.
We hope all of you see this eye-opening production, as well. If you want to see the play while also supporting efforts to raise awareness for the refugee crisis, you can still bid on the auction package. Learn more here!
