Internships

Want to experience first hand how documentaries are made?
Want to make a difference by working on projects that can help build bridges and inspire change?

Join the Spark Media internship program.  Spark Media has a long tradition of nurturing documentary talent.  Every major project produced at Spark has a large stable of interns working on every level of the production - We all wear many hats here at Spark and that goes for our interns as well. The best way to learn about filmmaking is by actually doing it!

Assignments will vary depending on the project, but all interns will leave Spark with an awareness of how a documentary is made, from scripting to production to the editing process. Find your voice and become a filmmaker dedicated to social change.

Intern Testimonials

1. If nothing else, Spark Media taught me problem solving, which is a critical asset for my future profession in producing or any field in production. In a small company working as a trusted intern, I was left with the responsibility to find solutions to many of my problems, which challenged me technically, creatively and professionally. - Nina Burnett

2. I also learned about the effort, dedication and energy it takes from all staff members to keep a small production company running and evolving. The optimism and can do attitude of everybody on the Spark team during even the most hectic and trying times surprised me. That attitude and work ethic were very awesome to witness and inspired me to push myself to work harder in the internship. Be prepared to work very hard, but also be prepared for lots of opportunities for fun and learning. (Cheesy, but true!) - Aditi Desai

3. Because Spark is so small a good amount of responsibility is given to the interns, which is nice because you feel like what you are working on is important and you are actually gaining real work experience in the field. - Lisa Lamont

4. I learned that the research portion is the most valuable part of a production. I gained more experience in using Final Cut as well as paying a lot closer detail to information. - Rhea Shannon

5. One of the major things I learned at Spark was real world team work. Team work may seem like a simple concept but the way we handled things in order to meet deadlines and meet goals was extremely effective and I gained from that. - Glen Gordon

6. My favorite part of the internship was coming into a fun but yet productive work environment. I enjoyed working with the producers at Spark and the other interns and together we accomplished many great tasks. It made me feel like I was part of a big family. I also enjoyed being able to go on an actual film shoot in which I got to see a live filming of interviews. - Constance Thurman

7. I learned the different components of production that we hear about in class but never get to see. I got to experience a professional production, firsthand. I also learned all the minuscule things that need to happen in pre- and post production that I had no clue about! - Andrea White
